Absa reshuffles and boosts its marketing function

The Absa Group Marketing and Corporate Affairs office has announced senior leader appointments as it continues to create a high-performing brand, marketing and communications team.

Clement Motale has been appointed as Managing Executive: GMCA Strategic Transformation and Partnerships, effective 01 July 2025. Currently Managing Executive for Communications and Marketing at Absa Corporate Investment Banking (CIB), Clement joined Absa Group in 2013 and has held various executive and senior management roles in the insurance, airline, and banking industries.

Clement is also a Chartered Marketer (South Africa) and an active member of the Marketing Association of South Africa (MASA). He is also a guest lecturer and moderator with Boston Media Campus.

Janice Snyman

Janice Snyman has been appointed Managing Executive for Marketing and Corporate Affairs at Absa CIB, effective 14 April 2025. Janice is a dynamic marketing executive with over two decades of experience across the Financial, Data and Technology sectors.

Janice joins Absa from a sabbatical, where she co-founded Enbodie, an AI Health-Tech startup. Her previous roles include time spent at the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), where she was the Director, for Marketing, Corporate Affairs & Programme Management. She also held the role of Global Director of Content Management for LSEG. Here she was tasked with designing and managing an Exco sponsored 2-year Brand Transformation Programme to streamline LSEG’s brand portfolio as an employer and investor brand, improving customer experience and revenue growth repositioning a 300-year brand into a modern leading brand, across 15 global markets and 6 languages. Other roles include being Regional Head of Marketing, Africa for Thomson Reuters, where she transformed the marketing function.

As a dynamic marketing executive Janice also held positions with SAP SE and SAP Africa as the Emerging Markets Marketing Executive - the Finance and the Energy & Natural Resources Marketing Manager and as a Digital Marketing manager.

Erica Bopape has been appointed Executive Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs - Relationship Banking effective 01 June 2025. Erica is the current Head of Marketing for Investment Banking at CIB, where she oversees the pan-African marketing strategy and execution for Investment Banking - which comprises the Investment Banking Division, Global Markets, and Commercial Property Finance businesses.

Erica joined Absa CIBW (then Absa Capital and Absa Wealth sub-brands) in February 2011. Prior to joining Absa, she spent six years in various managerial/specialist communications roles (internal, customer, media and PR) at Liberty Group. She also spent the early years of her career at Investec and Telkom.

Sarah Hall

Sarah Hall has been appointed in the role of Executive Head of Market Research and Insights - GMCA, effective 01 May 2025. Sarah is a highly experienced market research professional with over 15 years of primary research expertise and has a strong passion for storytelling and strategic decision-making.

In her role as the Head of Department for Group Research at MultiChoice, Sarah demonstrated exceptional leadership skills by establishing and managing a consolidated Group Research function. She successfully led a team of 10 professionals, including Senior Managers and Researchers, and was responsible for managing a significant multi-million-rand research budget across the MultiChoice Group.

Prior to that, Sarah held various positions at MultiChoice, including SA Research Manager, Senior Researcher and various roles in research companies that include Kantar and Mediacom as an Econometrician/Data Analyst. She has a Bachelor of Science degree and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Mathematical Statistics from Rhodes University.

 

Kgaiso Mokgethi has been appointed as Head of Product Marketing – Relationship Banking effective 01 May 2025 and will report into Erica Bopape. Kgaiso is a value driven and unconventional marketing services leader with demonstrated success in a range of industries, including healthcare, financial services, and retail. She has held significant Brand and Marketing roles in the Financial Services Sector at Hollard Insurance,  Woolworths Financial Services and Nedbank Capital.
