Addressing Global Climate Change: Our Commitment and Actions
At Absa, we recognise the pressing global challenges posed by climate change and are dedicated to being part of the solution. Since 2018, we have continuously prioritised our climate change efforts, achieving many notable milestones throughout.
Our aim is to play an active role in minimising pressure on nature’s resources by:
- Supporting customers in responsible consumption and the transition to a low-carbon economy
- Advancing our environmental and social risk management practices and capabilities in climate risk management
- Minimising our direct environmental impacts
Our Long-Term Vision: Net Zero by 2050
Absa has set a long-term ambition to reach a Net Zero state for our scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 2050. This goal underscores our commitment to mitigating the impact of climate change and contributing to a more sustainable future.

COP28:
Absa is proud to be part of the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 30 November to 12 December.
COP28 presents a pivotal moment for global collaboration and action on climate change and our participation is not just about showcasing our commitment to sustainability but it is also about actively engaging with global leaders, experts and stakeholders on the impact of climate change on business and our society.
As we engage in COP28 activities, we are eager to contribute to meaningful dialogues and initiatives that align with our purpose of empowering Africa's tomorrow, together, one story at a time. We believe that each collaborative effort, each story shared, contributes to a collective narrative of progress.
